It was an amazing experience - seeing a building that had been started in the early 1920's and completed almost 20 years later. But the numerous artifcats that Hearst had collected over the years seemed to make the home even more grand. Tapestries from England and Scotland, Roman columns and statues, Mosaics hand built, Teak sculptures based on European design and the finest china. Some of the artifacts were as old as 3200 years old.
The best part of the entire tour happened to also be the end of the tour. It was the indoor pool that Hearst had built underneath his tennis court. The trick was that the tennis court was built first. Anyway, the pool itself is a reflecting pool. And what makes it even cooler is that the floor of the pool is decorated as the night sky and the roof of the pool is decorated as creatures of the sea, mythical and real. That way, it seemed as if the world was upside down.
