Day two began with sleeping in until 6. And that was after getting up every 30 minutes or so to tend to Abby because she kept waking up.
After topping off the tank of our rental SUV (a Toyota highlander, of which, we are very pleased), we headed back onto the freeway through the desolate, boring landscape that is the five freeway.
A friend of Joanna's told us about a restaurant in Sacramento, called the Squeeze Inn. We Googled it (as everyone does with something they don't know because the Internet tells the truth. Right?). It turns out that Guy Fieri had been to this place and talked about it on Diners Drive Ins and Dives.
Remind me to tell you about Guy Fieri later.
We got to the Squeeze Inn and noticed that the line was outside the door. Did we want to wait? Joanna stepped in and looked around. It was packed but her assessment was that the food looked good. We took a chance and waited. And waited. And waited. Thirty minutes later, we finally got our food.
It was so worth waiting thirty minutes.
After taking what seemed like forever to eat the meal (and we even split the burger and a small order of fries), we started back on our way to our next destination. The fries we managed to keep eating until we arrived in Folsom, CA. We took a scenic trip through a neighborhood in Folsom that was filled with several large estates. Each of these homes were three stories or more with five and six car garages. And these had a lot of property. One of the homes that we saw had to have at least an acre and a half of space after the house was built on top of the land. Crazy. And the sad part, the homes and the land are worth half of what they are worth in Southern California. Then again, if you had to live in someplace where it was cold, rainy and windy all the time, that would bring home prices down.
We got lucky and contacted some friends of ours that wanted to meet for dinner and ice cream - which was convenient because the hotel's location was smack dab in the middle of a shopping center. It was fun to see our friends whom we hadn't seen in a while and catch up with them. It reminded us that we need to talk to them just a little bit more often.
